Most of us associate Cannes, a glamorous resort city on the French Riviera, with lavish film festivals and Hollywood celebrities. But. Despite the Cannes Film Festival’s twelve-day star-studded extravaganza, the city of Cannes offers an abundance of year-round fun activities.
Walk up Boulevard de La Croisette
It is easy to compare the Boulevard de la Croisette to the Promenade des Anglais in Nice. The two are easily comparable because they both follow the Mediterranean coastline and offer views of the sea. There are, however, variations.
Only Monte Carlo in Monaco has a greater concentration of designer retailers than La Croisette has on the French Riviera. (I should know. I rushed into every high-end boutique on the Côte d’Azur in search of fashionable white sneakers.)
In addition to premium boutiques such as Chanel and Dior, there may be a parade of expensive sports cars, opulent hotels, and colorful sculptures. Without a doubt, Boulevard de la Croisette is linked with glitz.
Visit the view Port
The old harbor, also known as the Vieux Port, is located west of the structure known as the Palais des Festivals. Here, you can get so close to the sleek-looking ships that it makes sense for the world’s elite to invite you aboard. (They may be in conflict.)
However, the marina is one of the most picturesque sections in Cannes. Its abundance of yachts, fishing boats, and floating palaces contributes to the upmarket image of the French Riviera.
Explore The Old Town
The Old Town is seen from the Vieux Port as a peak of red-tiled roofs, weathered stone, and fading ochre and pink walls.
The Cannes Film Festival and the ritzy boutiques on La Croisette are newer additions to the city than the historic quarter. In reality, the Ligurians inhabited this area for five centuries before the Romans arrived.
In the 12th century, Cistercian monks purchased the land and utilized it to construct the Chateau de la Castre, a medieval fortress atop the hill.
Hit the Beach
What do you do when you’re ready for the sun in Cannes? Visit the beach. There are numerous beaches to select from in Cannes.
At a private beach club such as Mademoiselle Gray Plage Barrière, you can go all out and pay for a lounge bed with wait service, or you can pack your beach essentials and relax for free in 5-star territory at the open-air Palais Festivals Beach.
Cannes things to do off the beaten track
If you’re only in Cannes for one day, you won’t have time to visit Le Cannet. However, if you’re looking for things outside of Cannes that the average tourist won’t do, try going there.
This creative town is actually a suburb of Cannes. There lived Pierre Bonnard, a well-known artist who was instrumental in the transition from Impressionism to Modernism.
The Bonnard Museum on Boulevard Carnot is one of Le Cannet’s attractions. In addition, you can enjoy a number of Bonnard-inspired strolls around the green surroundings. Collect a pamphlet listing the different treks from the Cannes Tourism Office, then make your way to the hills to view some of Cannes’ most luxurious villas.
From Boulevard de la Croisette, you may either walk up Boulevard Carnot in 30 minutes or take Bus No. 1 to reach Le Cannet.
